Nothing beats the satisfaction of a Big Mac salad, even when ordered at a drive-thru! For hours of satisfying eating, try this gluten-free salad recipe that’s low in carbs.
I crafted an origami fortune teller for Lincoln, who is currently enamored with the craft (#middleschoolflashbacks), complete with fortunes inside. He regarded it as a really cool accessory. Okay, so I’m not very good at folding paper cranes, but how about some mountain and valley folds and some silly fortunates? Enormous across.
Upon seeing how simple and tasty this Big Mac Salad is, I guarantee you will want to whip it up as soon as possible. It tastes just like the real thing. Big Mac flavor abounds in this low-carb, gluten-free salad—no drive-thru necessary!
A fan of B-Bops, a burger establishment in central Iowa known for some of the greatest burgers in the state, Lincoln will rip into a double patty burger with all the fixings whenever he gets a special order.
The thought of his juicy burger is little excruciating for someone like me who has to avoid gluten. So, I decided to BOWL and whip up a Big Mac Salad to enjoy all the deliciousness without the gluten. Having this meal instead of a huge, laden burger has satisfied my hunger pangs, and the salad adds extra nutrients and keeps me from being dehydrated.
A Big Mac Salad that is GF
When you make a Big Mac Salad, you’re essentially eating a gluten-free Big Mac in a bowl. It has all the flavor and none of the icky aftertaste of the real thing. A bed of crisp romaine lettuce sets the stage for a mouth-watering combination of seasoned ground beef, thinly sliced red onions, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped dill pickles, fresh tomatoes, and that irresistible distinctive special sauce. Soak it all up! Salads like these make me feel full for hours.
Dressing for a Big Mac Burger Salad
For my lunch salads, I’ve been getting large romaine lettuce packs from Costco and devouring them in no time. That is just brilliant! If you don’t have romaine, use any lettuce you have; it can handle a lot of toppings.
Meat seasoning: For burgers in general, I use GF Worcestershire sauce, handmade seasoned salt, and pepper. In this case, I use the same method for the ground beef in these bowls. Alternately, you can utilize my method for cooking ground beef like a restaurant, or you can repurpose chopped grilled burgers from another dinner. If you’re looking for a lighter alternative, ground turkey breast works well!
To get the full flavor of the creamy, fatty cheddar, I recommend using freshly shredded cheese in this salad. And why bother with the cheese if it doesn’t taste?
The red onion is a stunning addition to the salad, but I’m a purist when it comes to burgers and normally opt with white onions. Each kind is equally suitable.
Crisp, fresh, and gluten-free dill pickles are what you need. My personal favorite is Grillo’s Pickles. Those are just fantastic!
The tomatoes in this salad are really versatile, so feel free to use whichever kind you happen to have. Sliced grape tomatoes are seen in the images, but any kind of tomato—cherry, Roma, or even vine-ripened—will do.
Extra Sauce: The Big Mac wouldn’t be the same without the extra sauce. A similar recipe is what I use for the dipping sauce on my
The recipe is the same as Cheeseburger Quesadillas, but instead of ketchup, substitute French salad dressing. Feel free to substitute ketchup if you happen to have any on hand; although, it does seem more salad-y.
How to Prepare This Dish
Whisk together the Special Sauce and salad dressing ingredients. Combined in a mixing basin, mix:
- Keeping mayonnaise
- Kumbaya, a French condiment, or salad dressing
- Red or white onions, minced
- Cilantro, minced
- Purified white vinegar
Oh, I see! This dressing is best served chilled, so feel free to whip it up a day or two in advance.
Then, add ground beef to a big skillet and brown it over medium-high heat. Season with pepper, homemade seasoned salt, and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Placing a paper towel-lined dish on top of the browned ground beef will allow it to drain and cool slightly.
The ground beef I use to make it the way restaurants do it tastes great in this salad as well.
Chopping onions, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce, followed by grating cheese, makes up the remaining prep labor. Place a mound of lettuce on each plate or bowl, top with your choice of toppings, and then top with generous amounts of Special Sauce Salad Dressing.
Enjoy! Eat to your heart’s content with these Big Mac burger bowls; I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
